Installed in about an hour. The subsequent day recorded many 25 mile an hour wind events that my old station would by no means do. Seems to be working greater than expected. A single note the sending unit demands to be on a exceptionally strong pole or incredibly brief to prevent the unit from swaying. It will give false rainfall readings. The display has a wealth of data, ticker is tricky to read at distance. Backlight is a good function. I hope this unit last as long, and works as nicely as my earlier Acu-Rite weather station. Will update this in a couple of weeks or if anything modifications.
I have had the Acu-Rite Wireless Weather Station in use for about 3 months now. The outdoor unit is not real superior good quality. The wind speed sensor started squealing (like it required lubrication) a couple of weeks soon after installation. A drop of speedometer cable lube solved that situation. Now the wind vane on the bottom of the unit is locked up (wind won't move it). Signs of rust on the spindle bearing.
Some fantastic points are that the outdoor temp and rainfall appear to track the National Weather Service official readings pretty closely (their workplace is about ten miles away), even on hot days. My outdoor sensor is in sunlight most of the day, so the internal fan appears to do its job.
For the indoor unit, it has a lot of cool features, but one particular is missing...day-to-day rainfall totals. Also, I noticed that when I turn on the backlight (blue light), the indoor temp will rise a few degrees immediately after a period of time. Room temp is not changing (verified with a separate thermometer). Would have also been nice if it had an atomic clock and set its personal time/date, but can not complain too significantly for the price tag.
I'm contacting the manufacturer to get the outdoor unit replaced under the one year warranty. We'll see how that goes.
UPDATE 16 SEPT: It really is been a week considering that I sent the firm an email requesting warranty service. No response. Tried calling them and got the "all agents are busy" message for 30 minutes. Not creating a very good impression!
UPDATE two: Finally got in speak to with Acu-Rite. They authorized the return of the defective outdoor unit and sent me a new replacement. (I did have to pay return shipping of the old unit) Bumped the rating up 1 star due to the fact they did make it suitable. It is been a handful of months now with the replacement outdoor unit and it appears to be operating fine.
UPDATE 1/20/12: Noticed that wind speed sensor on the outdoor unit not turning once more. Checked it and the sensor spindle bearings are squealing on this a single as well. Will have to go back to Acu-Rite once more for a further replacement. Save your self some trouble and don't get this unit.
UPDATE two/17/12: Sent email message to Client Service and they agreed to replace the outdoor unit (once again) at no charge. This time, they didn't need return of the defective unit. They told me the replacement would come in 7-10 enterprise days, but I got it in about three days. Have to give props for very good client service. Replacing the outdoor sensor unit needs pressing the 'clear all' reset button on the base unit to sync up with the new unit, which suggests losing all your historic data. We'll see how extended this 1 lasts....
